mission

My grandmothers were known for their sewing skills. Sure, maybe it was tradition for their role back then, but the love and care they put in every stitch isn't something I see too often in today's clothing production. The quality was something I'll never forget. One grandma would sew me a new pajama set every year and mail them from Iran. Every year a little bigger, accounting for my growing bones. With both of my grandmothers gone, I still have their creations to remind me what can happen if you dedicate time, attention, and care in everything you do.

I picked up sewing around 8th grade-- pencil pouches, tote bags, the works. I continued through my high school years, taking sewing classes and making my own pieces from patterns. Not to brag or anything, but I was the president of my school’s fashion club my senior year, so yeah, I think I know what I’m talking about.

I would sew silly little shapes on my own clothes to add some personality to simple pieces. My passion for sewing, commitment to slow fashion, and continuous support of social organizers and activists led me to start this thing in July 2020. And frizzy was born!

Frizzy Threads dismantles any preconceived ideas of what it looks like to own ethically sourced and produced clothing. We’re an ethical brand that hates the aesthetic of ethical brands. Our mission is to serve our planet, our communities, and organizations we are passionate about supporting through direct financial assistance. We produce ethical, upcycled apparel and accessories fighting the environmental impact, and tacky sameness, of fast fashion.

Preloved thrifted clothing sustainably sourced is reimagined with graphic, cheeky designs made with the fun, playful material of felt. Each individual piece promotes sustainability and environmental consciousness in fashion. Frizzy Threads treats each piece to be durable and one of a kind.

Every month, we donate a portion of profits to an organization we care about. So far, we’ve supported:

1Hood Media

For the Gworls

B.Y.E. (Black, Young, and Educated)

Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan

North Brooklyn Mutual Aide

Razom For Ukraine

And much more to come. Hope you find something you like. xoxoxo
